Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch was born on July 19, 1976, in London, England. The son of actors Timothy Carlton and Wanda Ventham, Cumberbatch studied at the University of Manchester and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

Cumberbatch gained critical acclaim for his portrayal of the enigmatic Sherlock Holmes in the BBC series "Sherlock." He received an Academy Award nomination for his role as Alan Turing in "The Imitation Game" (2014) and another for his performance in "The Power of the Dog" (2021).
