Early Life and Career:

Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch was born on July 19, 1976, in London, England. The son of actors Timothy Carlton and Wanda Ventham, Cumberbatch studied at the University of Manchester and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

Notable Performances and Awards:

Cumberbatch gained critical acclaim for his portrayal of the enigmatic Sherlock Holmes in the BBC series "Sherlock." He received an Academy Award nomination for his role as Alan Turing in "The Imitation Game" (2014) and another for his performance in "The Power of the Dog" (2021). Cumberbatch has also won a British Academy Film Award and a Primetime Emmy Award.

Some of Cumberbatch's other notable roles include the sorcerer Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Khan Noonien Singh in "Star Trek Into Darkness" (2013), and the title role in "Hawking" (2004).
